About P.J. Marley's

LOCATED ON THE SQUARE IN HISTORIC DOWNTOWN MEDINA

P.J. Marley’s restaurant & pub is a casual eatery with a focus on fresh homemade burgers and food, in an atmosphere where everyone can feel at home. P.J. Marley’s came about when Patty (P) and Jon(J) decided to take the leap and turn their dream into a reality.

Patty is a Northeast Ohio native and a graduate of Euclid high school. Jon was born and raised in Medina and is a graduate of Buckeye high school. the dream that became P.J. Marley’s began at, BW3s, located on the campus of The Ohio State University, where Patty & Jon met and became college sweethearts. while dating, they were lucky enough to have the opportunity to adopt a basset-lab mix named Marley and save him from a trip to the pound.

Patty and Jon pursued their careers in engineering and marketing, however, they always came back to the idea of starting a restaurant with fresh, homemade food in a comfortable atmosphere. they even joked around with the name “P.J. Marley’s” for Patty, Jon & Marley. seventeen years later the dream of owning a restaurant became a reality and so did the name.

During remodeling, P.J. Marley’s worked hard to maintain the historical turn-of-the-century ambiance of the location’s first and only occupants, The Savings Deposit Bank Of Medina County. built in 1891, the bank was founded by the Spitzer family and was the first bank in Medina County to offer night deposits and interest on bank accounts. the final days of the bank were in 2013 when Key Bank cashed its last check at the historic location.

P.J. Marley’s left much of the original bank building intact, including the crown molding, the filigreed bank teller wall, the security portholes where armed guards sat watching the doorway during the bank-robbing days of the depression, and the original vault and its safety deposit boxes. the vault seats up to eight guests and is great for special occasions. before opening, Patty and Jon visited the Medina antique mall to get ideas for décor which would stay true to the building’s history.

During their visit, they found P.J. Marley’s expansive bar which was originally installed in a New York pub around 1900. The polished-wood bar now features 13 beers on tap, a variety of Ohio liquors and premium bourbons. For kids, root beer is on tap.
